The elections and campaign styles influence the spread of COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learned from Kerala, India

Background: The pandemic caused by SARS-Cov-2 and its variants whack the world with overlapping waves. Kerala is Indian state which successfully curbed first wave of COVID-19, getting noticed when daunted second wave. aim this study was to assess impact two elections held in on transmission COVID-19 from October 1st, 2020 May 5th, 2021.Methods: employed a retrospective cross-sectional design publicly available data. test positivity (TPR) daily number cases (DNC) collected governmental websites Kerala, India dashboards entered MS Excel 2007 analysed using IBM SPSS version 25. Biweekly average TPR DNC descriptive statistics at different periods context were repeated-measures ANOVA Greenhouse-Geisser correction post hoc Bonferroni correction.Results: findings showed that increased after both local body assembly elections, but statistically significant increase found election [mean difference= 1069 (357.047-1782.419) p=0.002 pre-election period].Conclusions: revealed conduct stages organizing campaigns limiting area following COVID protocols had demonstrable positive effect against potential spread.
